A Touch of Class
'A Touch of Class' is a group of ladies who have an interest in drama and live entertainment in the community. We perform at Ladies Groups, W.I.'s and Social Events throughout Lincolnshire. Our repertoire is very varied and includes songs, dances (tap and Egyptian), plays, sketches and monologues. We perform many original sketches and plays written by myself and other members of the group which are available to buy on our 'Scripts' page. We perform an original pantomime every January for which we invite men and children to join us. I also write this with another member of the group. They are 'tailor-made' for the cast and no-one has a 'starring role'. The storylines stick vaguely to the traditional panto stories, although we do tend to wander a little! We have also invented pantomimes, for example, 'King Arthur and the Knights of the Allotment' and this years' panto 'Windbag the Sailor'.Some of these scripts are available to buy on our Scripts page. All profits from our pantomime performances are given to our local Village Hall Improvement Fund. This year was over £1600.
The group started in 1991 and when we are not rehearsing we enjoy reading plays, old and new, with a view to performance. Alongside our evening shows we produce 'An Evening of Entertainment' in the spring which features drama and music and a ploughman's supper with free wine!!! This is always very popular and sells out very quickly. We entered the WI Drama Festival in Stoke-on-Trent as the representatives of Lincolnshire and performed 'Eight Shillings A Week' in a real theatre! A wonderful experience.
Last year we held our annual Evening of Entertainment which was 'Remember the 1960's with A Touch of Class' We also performed a 2 hour variety show for a huge audience at the Lincolnshire Showground.
Our next pantomime is 'Jack and the Beansprout' on Friday 29th January 2011 at 7.30 and Saturday 30th January 2011 at 2.00 and 7.30. Tickets are £5 for adults, £4 for concessions and children under 16, children 5 years and under are FREE
